**POSITION POSTING IS FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS SEEKING STUDENT TEACHING ASSIGNMENTS for SY 2021-2022 **

 

JOB GOAL:    The purpose of the student teacher assignment is to provide the teacher candidate an extended experience in the role of teacher.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Hold/Obtain a Georgia Pre-Service Certificate.
  2. Enrolled in a Teacher Certification Program approved by Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GAPSC)
  3. Background check
  4. Documentation of assignment as instructed below.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Observing in classes of various age level and subject matter specialties;
  2. Completing reports and maintaining records such as attendance, lunch counts, pupil personnel folders, report cards and inventories.
  3. Carrying out various routine school functions, such as playground supervision, lunchroom supervision, ordering supplies, attending workshops and participating in open house and parent teacher meetings.
  4. Locating and using sources of complementary materials such as audio-visual aids and books.
  5. Administering and constructing examinations and tests.
  6. Planning and carrying out units of work.
  7. Managing classroom learning activities and pupil behavior.
     

(B) The student teacher will plan jointly with the supervising teacher for conference periods at times convenient both for the supervising teacher and the student.

 

The Student Teaching Experience.

The nature of the student teaching experience will include but not be limited to the following:

(A) The period of observation will precede any actual participation in the class, the length of which will be left to the discretion of the student, the supervising teacher and the college supervisor;
(B) With the guidance of the supervising teacher, the student will plan and carry out teaching experience of several weeks' duration. During this period, he/she will be given as much responsibility as is reasonably possible;
(C) The student teacher is to be left alone in the classroom under the following guidelines:

(i) There must be some experience in teaching the class before the student teacher is left alone.   Additional responsibility should be added only as experience and success dictate;

 

Evaluation:

          Performance of the student teacher will be evaluated by the assigned Mentor Teacher.
